(JEE) provided investigation services to define the extent of subsurface soil and groundwater contamination resulting from a leaking gasoline fuel tank system. The fuel tanks were used in the retail sale of gasoline at an automobile fueling station. The spill was discovered when the tanks were abandoned by the fueling station and needed to be removed from the subsurface. Once discovered, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) required the owner sign a stipulation agreement and extents of the spill and remedy the problem. The investigation of the spill was complicated due to an urban setting with numerous utilities and political property boundaries. Upon completion of the investigation JEE had determined the extent of the soil and groundwater contamination, direction of groundwater movement, and subsurface geologic conditions to support remedial design.
